Trip To Obersalzberg

On the last day of my summer vacation this year, a friend and I decided to go to the museum at the Obersalzberg. Its where Hitler had his … I dont even know how to call it, its where he thought himself safe up a mountain in the alps. As I live really close to the Obersalzberg its not even a trip, rather a 15 minute care ride it was about time I went there!

He certainly picked a most beautiful spot for himself and all the others that he moved up there. The SS made everyone who lived there for generations leave, forcefully if needed, so he had the whole spot for his “upper leage” or whatever you want to call it. I didnt get a good shot of the area as it was really cloudy. But we want to go back there, maybe more luck then.

There isnt much left up there. The Americans bombed the whole area and everything that was left after that, was torn down, mostly. Its amazing that even after all this time, there are still parts of buildings left, you just have to know where to look. Incredible, really. It was weird walking around the area knowing who else walked around there already decades before.

This for example is what is left of Hitlers house up there, its basically only the supporting walls and some bricks plus nails, there were even candles burning, so very creepy!

And this is really eerie as well, now and then, YIKES:

The next place we want to visit is Mauthausen, I havent been there yet, even though its so close. We just drove by once on a ski trip. How casual to say that, when such horror happened there and we just drive by.

On my way to learn about the past that must never be forgotten.
