Bone Marrow Donor
POSTED in: Daily Life

I have a really hard time dealing with my skin, I cannot deal with it at all actually. In my quest to make me realize that there are worse things, I have stumbled upon Caringbridge. That was the intro to this entry.

Have you ever considered becoming a bone marrow donor (for those who are old enough)? Donating bone marrow can save lives. It is not dangerous, and can mean a “new live” for the person receiving it.

I dont think looking away in an answer, we are not ignorant people after all. If you have never had bad happen to you, family or friends, good for you. In one second your life can be turned upside down. You are suddenly in the situation where you are dependent on the help of others, and not the other way around.

Why is donating bone marrow important?

On Katias page, I read about a boy needing a transplant for leukemia. They found a perfect match for him, which gave him a very good prognosis. However, in the last minute, the donor didnt want to donate anymore. They had to take another donor, a bad match, his prognosis changed from very good to poorly, and he had to prepare for a heck of a time during and after the transplant. The boy was 11 years old, he died last week. Even though one person had it in himself / herself to save his life.

How bad is that. Do you have what it takes to save another persons life? Care to find out? 🙂

Ah! That is really bad! I know I am not allowed to give blood, because here if you have had a blood transfusion, you are not allowed to give blood incase you have HIV or something. It is nearly the 25th, have you decided about the jab. I have a jab tomorrow :-\ England v Croatia tonight!

I’m actually in the bone marrow bank. They did a drive at school about a couple of months ago. It was a easy decision to put myself in the database, but I would have to do more considering if I am a match. I know it should be an easy decision, but I would have to know more about it. I haven’t heard from the bone marrow people since, but I figured that I’m in their database and they can contact me when they need to.

I am not quite old enough yet, but I think that you are doing such a great thing by writing that sad story about that boy. Everybody needs help, and even if you can’t donate soething from your body, you sure show it by a number of other ways. Bless you…

Those bone marrow drives and blood drives are an amazing thing in the USA! We dont have that here, even though they pay you money to donate! Do you want to know how it works? You get a sedation, and they take the bone marrow out of your hip bone I believe. You are out the next day. 😀 Here at least. Thank you Wendy for the comment!
