Eurovision Songcontest 2006
POSTED in: Daily Life

Ok, did everyone see a different Songcontest than I did? Because quite honestly, I hated Finland. I didnt like Russia either, nor Mazedonia.

My favourites were Greece, Sweden, Malta, Ireland and Germany. I especially loved Greece, and I was sure she was going to win, but then, I also loved Malta (last place with 1 point).

And exactly that is the reason why Austria boycotted the whole thing this year. Because the whole contest has nothing to do with music. Maybe next year one group will perform naked, with hand puppets on their genitals. New + crazy + and a bit insane guarantees first place!

Germany did much better this year. The lead singer was a teacher at the Fame Academy, which hardly anyone watched, a shame.

And what was that with Lithuania? That was not even funny anymore. All in all, a few good songs, inbetween A LOT of very bad ones.

The thing is, it isn’t about the music. A lot of the performances were out of tune, and it seems more like a talent show than whose music is the best. I watched the BBC Young Musician of the Year before, and that was about musicianship, that was about people who played music sensitively and passionately to a high standard. None of those needed costumes to make their music good. Watch out in the next week for the post – I’ve sent you something!

Hey Nicki, how did the guitarboy do yesterday? I would have watched that too, so inspiring! Oh, mail! I need to write to you too, I am so bad with that, a definite need for improvement! 😉 Have a great Sunday Nicki!

Well, with YMOTY there is only a winner, not first, second, third etc. He didn’t win, but he played excellently, one of the judges, a famous guitarist was saying how he was performing some of the most technically demanding things flawlessly. He really put emotion into the music. It is a shame you can’t download clips of them playing. It only happens once every two years, so the next one will be in 2008. My Sunday is being sent revising – my exams start properly this week ARGH. At least they finish the day before my birthday 😀 âž¡

Good luck for your exams Nicki, my thumbs are crossed! âž¡

All the people on YMOTY are very talented. Here we have a grading system 1-8, and then after that diplomas which are professional award. Those people are above diploma standard and under 18! Thanks – hopefully they’ll go ok 🙂

Naja.

    Dir alles Liebe Anuschka! âž¡

Yes, I figured. I was thinking if that boy is better than my guitar teacher… It would be a shame if they would stop now. But then, maybe for the people going on to College and Uni, it is too time consuming?

People like that often go to music conservatoires or music colleges, which is basically living, eating and sleeping music and music competitions and becoming a better player. I think 3/5 finalists were from those kind of schools.

    *hihihi*
