This year is the 60th anniverary of the Second Republic and the 50th anniversary of our Staatsvertrag, the treaty which was signed shortly before the last allied soldier left Austria after 10 years of occupation, on October 25th, 1955.
Because of that our national television broadcasted the first of four documentations about The History Of the Second Republic today.
Unreal that only 60 years ago THAT was going on. We all know it, we all learn it in school. But what they showed today, I have never seen before.
People think we are all Nazis, even nowadays. Back then, what choices did people have. I saw them dead all over Vienna today, hanged because they were for freedom and against Hitler. I saw kids, little kids, being shot, just because. You were killed just for listening to the wrong radio station!
There was so much bad going on. I really cannot understand why people think that we are all for it. It is insane, mad! ❗
During Hitlers regime, my Dad lived in Vienna with his Mom. A while ago he told us that during the regime he and his Mom were taken away by a friend, and a short while after that, all people in that house where they had lived, were killed, because someone of the regime thought they saw something sparkling in a window.
I am sure we have Nazis. But they live all over the world, they dont have their headquarterts here.
By the way, here are photos of Hitler giving his famous speech on Viennas Heldenplatz, powerful, and some more! And because I know people come here for pictures of Mauthausen all the time, this site has them, horrific beyond belief.
Declaration on Austria
(Moscow Conference, October 1943)The governments of the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union and the United States of America are agreed that Austria, the first free country to fall a victim to Hitlerite aggression, shall be liberated from German domination. They regard the annexation imposed on Austria by Germany on March 15, 1938, as null and void. They consider themselves as in no way bound by any charges effected in Austria since that date. They declare that they wish to see re-established a free and independent Austria and thereby to open the way for the Austrian people themselves, as well as those neighboring States which will be face with similar problems, to find that political and economic security which is the only basis for lasting peace. Austria is reminded, however that she has a responsibility, which she cannot evade, for participation in the war at the side of Hitlerite Germany, and that in the final settlement account will inevitably be taken of her own contribution to her liberation.

Danke für den Link. Für mich ist das alles soweit weg und als Schweizerin gar nicht wirklich fassbar.
Ich bin jedoch auch der Meinung, dass viele “mitgemacht” haben, um zu überleben. Denn ich weis, dass ich das auch machen würde.

Manche Leute sind echt nur dumm. Jetzt werfen die dem Ratzinger vor Nazi zu sein, weil er in der Hitler Jugend war, war sogar bei Larry King! Das das verpflichtend war checken die ja nicht. Ich wette das so gut wie jedem damals sein Leben wichtiger gewesen waere. Wir sind ja keine Maertyrer. 😀

It is amazing how people still think that Germans (even those of Germanic descent) are Nazis today. My grandfather was German, and I can remember when I was younger kids at school teasing me about being a Nazi, even though I’m not German, have never been to Germany, and no one in my family was even associated with Nazis! It’s really sad. Most people in America automatically associate Germans with Nazis, and it just isn’t right. :\

Like Erin I also have German ancestors & people tend to look at me funny when it comes up in conversation…even though my German ancestors fought in the American Civil War!
It says more to people’s prejudices than anything else & that is a shame.

Ja, das finde ich auch ziemlich daneben, obwohl ich kein Fan von Ratzinger, der katholischen Kirche oder dem Christentum an und für sich bin.
Und was man auch nicht vergessen sollte: Die waren damals noch Kinder!!!
Ich werde die Seite auf jeden Fall noch intensiver ansehen, es scheint auch gute Links zu anderen Seiten drauf zu haben.
