What I really need the most is definitly motivation. I sit at the computer and think, I do not want to practise guitar. I sit infront of the TV and think I do not want to practise guitar. I stare wholes in the air and think, I do NOT want to practise guitar. And so it is that I haven´t touched the guitar since almost 3 weeks and I have my lesson tomorrow. Oh no. The hardest battle you ever have to win, is the battle against yourself. How true is that. *sighs*
Holidays are over now, and I have to enter the world tomorrow, with that aweful haircut. *dies* Hoped for it to grow like A LOT over the holidays, but of course it didn´t.
Have to practise guitar now, but of course, I don´t want too.

Do you have anything to work towards in guitar? A recital or an exam? Without that it’s even harder to practice, because there’s no goal to aim for. The most I ever practiced flute in my life was for my vce practical exam last year. I knew how much work I needed to do for that, and I forced myself to get into the habit of practicing *every day*. Not for very long – only 20-30 mins, sometimes 45. (My teacher thought I would have been doing at least an hour, and that’s what my school recommended as well.) Once you’re in the habit, you feel out of place if you don’t practice (heh sort of – really guilty is more like it) so you continue to work towards your goal. Man, I made so many improvements when I practiced last year, I was thrilled. Something else you can try is tell yourself you’ll practice for 5 minutes a day. It’s a very short amount of time, so you figure, what the heck. But what happens is you trick yourself – you sit down to play for only 5 minutes, and before you realise it 15-20 mins have gone by. 😉 Try varying your practice: start off with a piece you love to warm up, then do scales, then do the hard parts of your actual pieces, then do the fun parts. 🙂 I could ramble on for ages about practice techniques, hee. Do it in the morning, first thing, before you have breakfast! You’ll feel a million dollars and a HUGE weight will be off your shoulders for the rest of the day – it feels fantastic, I promise you. 😀 GOOD LUCK! hee.
