Salzburger Adventsingen 2016

As expected, I didnt really get a chance to blog yesterday. Sorry about that, I will post in retrorespect.

As I wrote yesterday, my brother got a ticket for the last dress rehearsal for this years Salzburger Adventsingen. As I havent been there in decades – I think I was there as a small child – of course I took the chance. And despite what it is, I just love the sound in our festival halls so much, it is insane!

Just to give you a complete picture. The following photo shows part of the inner city. The big building on the right side, with the lights turned on, this are the festival halls. It looks “boring” on the outside, but it is spectacular on the inside.

The event has its 70th anniversary this year, meaning it was first performed in 1946, right after WW2 ended. To celebrate, they decided to go back to the roots. It gave me chills when the man who did the introduction, talked about the mothers who lost their sons and husbands so recently. I just cant imagine the tragedy that was 1946, despite reading so much about it. So the Adventsingen was created, to bring light and hope to all the people, who had lost everything. The whole event this year is dedicated to everyone who has to carry a heavy burden. Loved the introduction, obviously. So special. The whole Adventsingen is as Austrian as it can get really. At the end the complete ensemble sang the Andachtsjodler. I tried to find a good YouTube video of it, to no avail. I got massive chills! As soon as they started singing, everyone stood up, the complete festival hall! Old people were crying, it was so emotional. I also really liked the scenery in the background.

Got home way late and went to bed even later. Ewwww.
