It Is AUSTRIA!
POSTED in: Daily Life

You know its a fact that people overseas, from the countries on the other side of the Atlantic ;-), mix Austria with Australia, all the time. Nevermind that the only similarity of these two countries are the first 5 letters…

It drove me bananas when I was in the States. After 6 months my hostsister still told people that I was from Australia, good God. 😡

So I am reading another Larry King transcript. It was Big King week on CNN last week (25 years CNN, 20 years Larry King), and Babara Walters interviewed Larry. His father emmigrated from, you name it, Austria!

I love the transcripts, I almost admire the person that does them. But please, what is this?

GOV. ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER (R), CALIFORNIA: Larry, I don’t get. You’ve been now at CNN for 20 years and you look better than ever? I’m a little jealous, I have to admit it. I know you have 40,000 interviews under your belt, with kings, queens, presidents, Australian bodybuilding governors…

STOP STOP STOP STOP! No, not Australia, it is AUSTRIA! That little beautiful country in the alps! Where July Andrews sang her heart out, remember? You will be doomed if you book a holiday to Austria to look for kangaroos, or to Australia to look for Mozarts birthplace.

What a shame. ❗

Really? People mix up Switzerland and Sweden? I hadn’t heard of that mix up before.

But has Larry King interviewed any Australian body builders before? Perhaps Arnold really did mean Australia and not Austria…

It’s good that I know a few smart Americans, but sometimes.. *shakes head along with Connie*
You know “they” always think Holland is something different than The Netherlands, no matter how many times you explain.. and then finally conclude that it’s actually somewhere in Scandinavia? *gasp*
